A breakdown on the motorway — A2, S2, S7, S8 or S17 — is an especially dangerous situation. At 120-140 km/h every second and the right reaction matter. Here's what to do step by step.
Move onto the emergency lane immediately
As soon as you sense a problem, calmly move onto the emergency lane or as far right as possible and turn on your hazard lights. Don't brake hard or stop in a live lane if you can avoid it.
Triangle, vest and distance
On a motorway place the triangle at least 100 m behind the vehicle. Put on a reflective vest before you get out — that way you're visible to fast-approaching traffic.
Where to wait safely?
Leave the car through the barrier-side door and move with your passengers behind the crash barrier. Never stand next to the car on the road side or between the vehicle and the barrier.
